My husband is away this weekend and as much as I will miss him, I’m really excited about getting a chance to relax and have some quiet ‘me’ time.
The season of non-stop action is upon us. This is the last weekend I’m free until 2016. Which gives me anxiety just to type!
These days, I covet every minute of quiet alone time I can get. Don’t get me wrong, I love my people. But honestly, as I grow up and feel more grounded in life – I also feel this huge pull towards introverted tendencies. Which, I am 100% cool with honouring.
Now that my all-about-me weekend is in full swing, I thought I’d hop on the blog to share with you my favourite products to use on a weekend of self-love. From cozy and comforting to hydrating and healing; this blog has you covered.
I’m in full self-care-queen mode right now, here is what I’m using to indulge:
(Helpful Tip: Click the titles for the links of where I purchased each item!)
- Ultrasonic Diffuser
I use mine daily. But on quiet weekends like these, I love to use lavender essential oil in mine and run it while I meditate, journal, and just relax. Lavender is one of those scents that just instills an automatic sense of peace in me. This diffuser also helps purify the air and creates such a calming atmosphere.
- Coconut Wax Candle
Candles are one of those things I just can’t get enough of. When I find one that is not only healthy but smells amazing, I go a bit crazy with them. This one is made with no phthalates, no parabens and is made from coconut wax. It smells incredible and the glass jars they come in are so beautiful. To me nothing says ‘cozy night in’ like a room full of candles.
- Olaplex No 3
Using this today is actually what sparked my desire to write this blog. If you are someone who dyes your hair regularly and you haven’t learned about Olaplex yet – ask your colourist! Using this product has been a game changer for my hair. Essentially it is a hair strengthener. In the salon it’s actually mixed into your dye. I would recommend googling it to learn more.
The product I am using today at home it Olaplex No 3, which is the take-home step for personal use. If your salon doesn’t carry it you can click the link above to get it. It’s pretty pricey for a small bottle. But I swear by it! You don’t need too much. I use mine once a week. You have to leave on for at least 10 minutes, but the longer the better. On a day like today I’d leave it on for an hour or two, just cover my hair with a plastic bag and let it work it’s magic.
- Cozy Socks
Really and truly these don’t need much description. What girl doesn’t love cute and cozy socks? They just add such a comforting little addition to any relaxing weekend.
- Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has been my best-gal-pal this weekend. With the weather change I’ve been feeling like my home is super dry and it’s been making my skin feel tight and gross. If you have oily skin this might not be ideal for you. But, if you have normal to oily skin like me, you need to start your love affair with coconut oil ASAP!
Here’s what I do:
– Mix 1/2 cup of coconut oil with 1/4 cup of sugar. I like brown or coconut sugar. Smells sweeter and is more coarse. You can add some drops of essential oil to this too. I don’t because I like to put it on my face as well as my body. But if only using as a body scrub, try adding the zest of one lemon and some citrus essential oil.
– Hop in the shower and scrub down with the mixture. I put it everywhere including my face. (Be careful! Makes shower slippery. Use a rubber mat.)
– Rinse off, you will still feel a bit oily.
– Towel dry with a towel you don’t mind getting a bit of oil on.
– Now slather just the coconut oil on your body as a moisturizer when you get out.
– Put on loose cotton clothing that you don’t mind getting a bit oily.
– Let the hydrating goodness do it’s work!
I order mine organic and online from Amazon. Link is in the title. - Speaker
I love to play audiobooks from the audible app and also play zen music. I like the mediation mixes on Apple Music. I just finished listening to this book and loved it. I love my speaker. It’s great for a small place, but still can go very loud if needed. This one is both bluetooth and has an auxiliary option. - Vase
Last weekend on Instagram I shared my love for what I like to call ‘Fresh Flower Fridays’. When you’re going to spend the whole weekend in your home, why not add some fresh and natural beauty. To aid my flower habit, this is my newest and most favourite vase. I have a thing for all white flowers and it’s hard for me to buy any other colour. This vase just adds that extra level of decadence. And it’s super affordable!
- Faux Fur Throw
I received this as a wedding shower gift and I’m obsessed. I have baskets of blankets all over my place because I get cold easily and love the comforting feeling of them to cozy up with. This one is my new favourite for sure. I’m writing this blog wrapped up in it now! - Pitcher
I saw this and had to have it. It’s just so darn cute! It’s also BPA , phthalate and lead free.
The reason it’s on my chill weekend list is also the reason I use it most days. I fill it with water and lemon slices. It’s a 2L jug so I know if I finish it I’m doing great with my water intake for that day! I work from home and so I do this most days to make sure I stay hydrated. You could absolutely do this from your office desk as well. Especially in this weather where it’s easy to feel dry from indoor heating. H2O away!
Whenever you can find the time – I hope you can enjoy my favourite chill choices for yourself. Happy relaxing, my friends!
