Tequila is one of those ‘love it’ or ‘hate it’ kind of spirits! For all my fellow lovers out there, I’ve put together a short-list of my favourite tequila cocktails for summer.
Personally, I’m not a fan of anything too sweet or high in sugar. Even wine these days can be too much for me if I’m enjoying more than one glass.

The first two on this list are sweet, but not over the top! They use fresh and whole ingredients that you really can’t go wrong with. These are what I love to serve up when guests come over.
The third on this list is my hang-over free ‘go-to’. It’s simple, sugar-free and tastes great!

I always use Casamigos Blanco Tequila when I’m serving up my cocktails. It’s light, a little bit sweet and not harsh at all. Plus anything created by George Clooney must be perfect, right? ?
In my opinion, there IS such thing as a bad tequila. Casamigos is the way to go.

Whether you’re getting fancy with guests or keeping it simple and sugar-free – I guarantee you can’t go wrong with my go-to summer cocktail list. Bottom’s up, beauties!

Tequila Watermelon Margarita

This one is so fresh and delish! It’s an Ideal summer patio cocktail, with real and fresh ingredients instead of being too sugary. I love a frozen cocktail on a hot day, but traditional margarita mix is too sweet for me.

For this recipe you use fresh watermelon blended with ice to create the same glorious frozen cocktail, but using whole and fresh foods instead of sugar based mix!

I recommend making a pitcher of this. The recipe below serves 6 or so.

RECIPE

  • 5-6 oz Casmigos Blanco Tequila
  • 3 oz fresh lime juice (from 4 to 5 limes)
  • 4-5 cups cubed seedless watermelon (Note: If you’re ambitious – you could cube and freeze the watermelon in advance. I never am an always end up adding ice.)
  • Optional if watermelon not frozen: 2 cups of ice, more as needed.Feeling Fancy?
Add in Fresh Mint or Fresh Basil. Garnish with a slice of watermelon, too! ?

Add all ingredients to high quality blender, blend until smooth.
Serve in 8oz cocktail glasses immediately or keep remainder in fridge to slow melting.

Enjoy!

Tequila Mule

I’m not sure if it’s the too many years of working in the club industry in my 20’s – but I’m so not a vodka girl. Many brands have gluten in it as well, so it’s something I just steer clear from.

However, Moscow Mules became such a popular drink over the past year – and you really can’t go wrong with a drink that is infused with digestive healing powers. I am a huge ginger fan and an even huger fan of the freaking adorable copper tins these cuties get served up in!

So instead of making the traditional vodka based mule – I make a similar drink, but I replace the vodka with tequila. I also use 1/2 ginger beer and 1/2 soda as my mix to cut the sugar.

RECIPE

  • 1.5 oz. Casmigos Blanco Tequila
  • 4 oz. High Quality Ginger Beer
  • 4 oz. Soda
  • 1-2 slices of fresh lime, squeezed in.

    Feeling Fancy?
Garnish with a piece of candied ginger or fresh mint! ?

Layer all ingredients in a 16oz copper mug over ice.

Stir and Enjoy!

Hangover Free Margarita

Truth be told, this is my go-to cocktail. The two above are more ‘special treats’ I’ll make when we have guests over to keep things cute and fancy.
But If I know I’m having a night where the cocktails will be flowing or I will be up late – I will only drink this. Sugar in cocktails for me is killer when I’m enjoying more than just one or two.

Truly with this cocktail, you can’t get hung-over. (Well I’m sure it’s possible – LOL. But I’ve yet to experience it.) No sugar and keeping it simple are always my rules of thumb when I know I’m going to indulge.

RECIPE

  • 1 oz. Casmigos Tequila
  • 6 oz. Soda or Water
  • 2 oz. Freshly Squeeze lime juice
  • Squeeze in as much fresh fruit as you like!
(orange, lemon, lime, berries – whatever you have.)Feeling fancy?
Use frozen fruit as your ice cubes!

Serve in 12 oz. glass over lots of ice and stir well.
Enjoy responsibly!
