Routine Queen: What I Take Every Morning

There is something about the first week of September that makes me so excited for grounding and routine. I think it’s a mix of being over the chaos of summer, plus that nostalgic ‘back to school’ feeling from childhood. When I honour my inner routine queen I feel happier, healthier, more creative and less anxious.

In today’s #RoutineQueen series I am posting my morning must have’s for healthy supplements. I also will give you a picture of what a morning looks like for me!

I mix this collagen peptide protein (click here) with water and fresh squeezed lemon and drink it on an empty stomach as soon as I wake up. I’m new to this supplement and I already swear by it! My skin felt extra ‘glowy’ right away.
Collagen protein will make you feel full and is effective in balancing insulin levels—which can help avoid sugar crashes. The amino acids and collagen peptides in this supplement help the body restore youthful elasticity to skin.

Once I’ve made this I will take it to my meditation pillow with me and sip on it as I get grounded. If I have an early morning with meetings or a scheduled workout, I’ll drink it while I’m getting ready instead and save my meditation for later in the day.
But, one of my goals for the last quarter of the year is to make meditation first thing in the morning a top priority – even if it’s just 5 minutes. It really makes all the difference on how I look at and and handle my day.

For my second glass of water I mix about 5 drops of BioSil (click here) in water every morning. It is said to help reduce cellulite, wrinkles, fine lines and keeps skin, hair, teeth and nails healthy. As you get older, your body produces less collagen, so adding this supplement can help naturally promote the production of collagen in existing cells. I’m not really big on face creams and masks and all the exterior skin regimes. I think less is more when it comes to my skin. I love to treat my skin from the inside out with lots of water, good fat and collagen supplements.
This collagen supplement is vegan but it has a slight fish smell so I always mix it in water with lemon and it masks it 100%. You can also add this to smoothies or juice if you are more sensitive.

This probiotic is my #1 go-to above all supplements. (click here). When I’ve been off routine it’s the first thing that makes me feel better. Digestive balance is key to overall health and wellbeing. There are many things that can impact the balance of good bacteria in your intestinal tract, including stress, travel, diet and age, just to name a few. Replenishing my digestive system with a probiotic is something that I feel a noticeable difference with immediately.

Multi-vitamins have always made me feel great while taking them. Our food is not made the way it used to be, so even if you are eating very well, added nutrients are still a great idea.
My husband and I are trying to have a baby and I did a lot of research on what pre-natal to take. I really like this one a lot and I feel great on it. (click here).  It’s base is also a fish-oil which is great for your skin and inflammation, as well.

Usually after my meditation, water and supplements I will workout.
I’m calling this September “Slow-tember” and I’m trying to focus more on listening to how my body wants to move instead of always lifting heavy weights and pushing myself to the edge. I’ll let you know how it goes! But so far my favourites have been simple stretching, body weight training, cardio and yin yoga.
I don’t eat until after the gym, so these 4 things really help me to feel full and satiated until I’m back. About 2 hours or so after waking up.

Post-workout I always have a smoothie. I like Vega chocolate protein powder (click here) and my go-to recipe is this:

  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • handful of spinach, kale or any greens I have
  • 1/2 an avocado or 1 tsp or coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 cup (more if needed) unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tsp of cinnamon

Blend and enjoy!
